Thiras Amfilochios: Difficulties are not a sign of abandonment by Godtranslated

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the first Sunday of the fifteenth of August, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Thira, Amorgos and the Islands Mr. Amfilochios went to Ios, where he officiated at Orthros and presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos. In his sermon, on the occasion of the evangelical passage of the 9th Sunday of Matthew, he referred to the incident in which the Apostle Peter, seeing the strong wind and the waves, began to sink and cried out to Christ: "Lord, save me".
His Holiness emphasized that difficulties and trials are not a sign of abandonment by God, and the disciples themselves, while carrying out the will of the Lord, encountered the storm. He emphasized that the greatest danger is not the waves of life, but that people's eyes turn away from Christ and fear dominates.
He then connected the message of the Gospel with the beginning of the period of the Fifteenth of August and the Sacred Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary, pointing out that the Church begins this spiritual journey not with triumphant celebrations, but with humble supplication and trust in God.
