Trisagio in memory of the blessed Metropolitan of Nubia Mr. Anthimos at Pyrgos Kyeritranslated

September 3, 2026 · 1 min read

Trisay for the repose of the soul of the blessed Metropolitan of Nubia, Mr. Anthimos (Sisco), was celebrated today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the morning, by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Thessaliotidos and Phanariofersalon, Mr. Timotheus, at the Holy Church of Agios Georgios Pyrgos Kyeri, where the tomb of the late Hierarch is located. Today's prayer at the place where he rests, in the Holy Church of Agios Georgios Pyrgos Kierios, was a modest tribute to his memory and an opportunity to highlight anew the important ecclesiastical and theological path of a Hierarch who draws his origin from the area of Karditsa.

Metropolitan of Nubia Mr. Anthimos (1890-1958) Anthimos Siskos was born in Pyrgos Karditsis in 1890. He graduated from the Theological School of Athens in 1922 and on December 4, 1924 he was ordained an Elder by Metropolitan Trikkis Polykarpos, receiving the office of Archimandrite.

During the first years of his priestly ministry he served as the Director of the Ecclesiastical School of Lamia (1924-1927) and then as Vicar of the Greek Church of Budapest (1927-1930).

In 1930 he went to Alexandria, where he assumed the duties of Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod.

Yes, I remember that name from years back too — the priest from Karditsa who mentioned him had served in Lamia for a while. Good to see Metropolitan Timotheos keeping the Trisagion at St George in Pyrgos Kieriou right by the tomb; it’s a proper way to honour someone who actually came from round there.

I was in Pirgos Kyeri a couple of years ago on a bicycle, I passed by the church of St. George and saw that grave. I didn't know that it was Antim Siskos from Kardica, who was also in Lamia. Thank you to Metropolitan Timotej for holding the Holy Trinity, it is nice when such people are not forgotten.

It is good that his service in Lamia in 1924-1927 is also mentioned. I am from Rousse, but as a mechanic I often pass through Greece for parts and I know how strong the parishes there are. It is good that Bishop Timotei went to the grave in Pirgos Kieriu, such people should not be forgotten.

I too heard about Father Anthis from a priest from Karditsa who had once come to us at the choir in Bucharest. It is nice that Metropolitan Timoteos went especially to Saint George in Pyrgos Kieriou, right next to the tomb. Thanks for the article, I like to see that those who served in Lamia are also mentioned.
