The Holy Metropolitanate of Corinth, Sikyon, Zemenou, Tarsou, and Polyphengou and the Municipality of Sikyon Organize an Event with the Theme "By the Side of the Human Being. The Example of Palliative Care," on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at the Municipal Theatre, Cultural Center "Giannis Spanos." Palliative care is specialized medical and nursing care aimed at improving the quality of life of patients and their families when they face serious, life-threatening illnesses.

Palliative care is designed to challenge us in our modern era regarding how a society decides to stand by the human being when treatment is no longer sufficient and pain is no longer a problem to be solved. It questions whether the patient is still considered a person or has become a mere event. The Church comes to actively contribute through a theological approach to palliative care, knowing from its long experience that a person endures pain when they do not endure it alone.

My wife’s uncle went through something like this last year with his cancer, and the palliative team at the hospital really helped the whole family not feel so alone. It’s good to see the Metropolis and the municipality working together on this instead of treating it like just a medical checkbox. Looking forward to the talk about the “Galilee” example — that name caught my eye.
