Archbishop of America: "Theotokos is a model for each of us"translated

August 15, 2026 · 1 min read

On the occasion of the great feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Most Reverend Archbishop of America Mr. Elpidophoros, with his message on social media, refers to the deeper spiritual meaning of the feast, underlining that the completion of fasting does not simply mark the beginning of a period of joy and celebration, but reminds man of his destiny towards eternal life.

"By honoring the entry of the Virgin into the eternal Kingdom of God, we recognize our own destiny together", the Archbishop characteristically notes, pointing out that the Virgin Mary, with her absolute faith and devotion to Christ, "thus showed us the way of eternity".

At the same time, Mr. Elpidophoros presents the Most Holy Theotokos as a model of Christian life, as she "brought the incarnate Lord in her immaculate womb", calling on the faithful to bring the testimony of Christ "in our thoughts, intentions and actions".

The bit about carrying Christ in our thoughts and actions really stuck with me. It's one thing to fast and celebrate the Dormition, but actually living that out on the school run or at the depot is the hard part. Good reminder from Archbishop Elpidophoros.
