To the Patriarch of Antioch the Christian Vice President of the Parliament of Syriatranslated

The Christian Second Vice-President of the Parliament of Syria, Madonna Besara, was welcomed yesterday, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Patriarchal Residence in Damascus, by the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Mr. John.  At the meeting, the challenges facing Syria today dominated the discussion, while special reference was made to the historic and traditionally strong role of the Church of Antioch in society and in the wider Middle East region.

His Beatitude wished Mrs. Besara for taking up the high positions, thanking her and stressing the need for cooperation that will work for the benefit of the Syrian people.

"We are proud of the primary role played by the members of the Church of Antioch in all stages of Syria's history", emphasized the Vice-President of the country's Parliament.

Syria's transitional parliament held its first session on Sunday, July 12, 2026, tasked with drafting the country's new constitution and laying the foundations for democracy after decades of Bashar Al-Assad's authoritarian regime.
