October 7: Saints Sergius and Bacchus are celebratedtranslated

Today, our Holy Church honors the memory of the Great Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus, the martyrs Eusebius and Felix and the Hieromartyr Polychronius. Saints Sergius and Bacchus came from Rome and lived under Maximian, around 300 AD. They belonged to the highest military ranks of the empire, and when they were accused of converting to Christianity, they courageously confessed their faith.
The Hieromartyr Polychronios received a careful Christian upbringing from his parents and emerged as a great teacher of the Christian faith. He moved to Constantinople, where he was ordained deacon and elder. His concern was that the people of his parish should know the true faith and live conscientiously the doctrines of the Orthodox Church.
Because of his staunch resistance to all torture, the Martians contrived and succeeded in killing him. So, while he was officiating, a group of heretics raided the Church and stabbed him on the Holy Altar.
