Event of memory and honor for the action of the 70th Engineer Battalion during the Turkish Invasiontranslated

On Monday, July 27, 2026, the Pancypriot Association of Engineer Reserves and the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation co-organised, in the Foundation's event hall, a commemoration and honor event for the action of the 70th Engineer Battalion during the Turkish Invasion. Political, ecclesiastical, and state officials, officers of the National Guard, especially of the Engineer, and of the Police, reservists of the Engineer and other supporters attended.

Representing His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. George, the Most Theophilous Bishop of Karpasia, Mr. Christophoros, emphasized, in the context of his greeting, the importance of the defense of the homeland during the Turkish invasion as well as the historical memory. As pointed out, "the history of the Order is a timeless symbol of bravery, self-sacrifice and commitment to duty, while the sacrifice of the fallen and the memory of the missing remain a sacred legacy for all of us".

The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, was represented by the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Mr. Stylianos Kountouris. During his greeting, he referred to the action of the 70th Engineer Battalion as well as the efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.
