The Archbishop of Cyprus at the official Armed Forces Day celebration ceremonytranslated

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, an anniversary event was held at the Cyprus State Theatre, as part of the celebrations for the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Cyprus, which was organized by the General Staff of the National Guard, in the presence of the Archbishop of Nea Justiniani and all of Cyprus etc. George, the Minister of Defense, Mr. Vassilis Palmas and the Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Theodorou. Also present were Ministers, Ambassadors and Defense Envoys of foreign countries, Members of Parliament, representatives of state agencies and local authorities, the Hierarchy of the Greek Armed Forces, retired Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers who served in the National Guard, as well as delegations of executives and soldiers.

The Minister of Defense and the Chief of the National Guard addressed the event.

The event included, among other things, a short historical review, a video from the multifaceted work of the National Guard and a short music program.

I am glad that Archbishop Georgios was present at the theater, next to the Minister of Defense and General Theodorou. It's good that they also showed a video of the actual work of the National Guard, not just speeches. We in the church choir always pray for peace, but I see that the military also need a blessing.
