Mitsotakis at the UN: Syrian Orthodox still face extremist violencetranslated

The importance of stability in Syria as a factor of more general stability in the Middle East, but also the need for practical protection of religious and ethnic communities, was mentioned, among others, by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the floor of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly. Mr. Mitsotakis stressed that "further tangible progress" is needed, particularly in protecting the rights and security of all religious and ethnic communities.

He made special reference to the Orthodox Christian minority, noting that it "continues to face the violence of Islamic extremists".

Among other things, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said:

"Syria is another important factor in the region. Long-term stability in the Middle East presupposes a stable Syria. An inclusive Syria, free from foreign interference and regional rivalries, where every citizen can - and must - feel safe.
