On this day, the Holy Church commemorates:

*Saint, the glorious prophet Elijah the Zealot. *Our venerable fathers, Saints Elijah I of Jerusalem and Flavianus II of Antioch. *The righteous Saint Ibrahim Galich the Russian. *The martyr Elijah the Just Georgian. *What is new about the Russian martyrs is Archimandrite Tikhon Krechkov and those with him.

✤ Saint Martyr Elijah the Just Giorgio (+1907 AD) ✤

He grew up in met. He excelled in science. He walked as a firm believer in the traditions of the Orthodox Church. He became a teacher of the Georgian people. In his teaching, he mostly returned to the lives of the saints. In the eyes of his people, he appeared as an image of a priest and a good shepherd who was ever ready to lay down his life for his sheep. He considered that piety linked to love for his people and his country was the essence of human life. He knew how to infuse the spirit of Christian patriotism into the hearts of his people. He was fair in everything he did and encouraged spiritual formation. He became a member of the government. He was assassinated in 1907. The Georgian Church canonized him in 1987 AD.

Тамара СемёноваAnd I didn’t even know that Saint Ilya of Georgia was also in the government. I wonder how he got along with his faith among politicians. It’s a pity that they killed him in 1907; he was obviously a good shepherd.

Світлана ЛитвинIt is interesting that he was also a government official, but still remained a real shepherd. In the text it is written that he considered piety with love for his people to be the very essence of human life - that's what you can feel. It is a pity that it was taken away so early, in 1907.

Илья МорозовYes, Tamara, the biography directly states that he was a member of the government, although there are few details. It was probably his faith and honesty that stood out there, since the people considered him a shepherd. But who exactly killed him in 1907 - for his faith or for his politics - is still not entirely clear, what do you think?
