Archbishop George: History entrusts today's disciple-making youth of Cyprus with the responsibility for liberation from the Turkish conquerortranslated

September 7, 2026 · 1 min read

The first bell rang today for the students of Secondary Education in Cyprus with the Archbishop Mr. George to send his own message on the occasion of the start of the new school year 2026-2027.  "Each new beginning is accompanied by a renewal of hopes and the willingness to increase efforts to improve our performance", notes His Beatitude.

The Archbishop of Cyprus, among other things, also refers to the technological achievements of our time and especially to Artificial Intelligence, underlining that: "Technology can become a valuable ally in education and communication. However, it often leads to neglecting the cultivation of critical thinking, which leads to essential knowledge. It’s true that AI can quickly mix the true and the false, my boys in primary school are already starting to ask bizarre questions after seeing fake videos. For the rest, I pray above all that our children will keep a strong head and a right heart, no matter what History will ask of them one day. Thank you for this clear message, Monsignor.

Yes, he is right about artificial intelligence. Mothers come to our store complaining that their children see all kinds of fake videos on their phones and then they don't know what's real anymore. I say let's take them to work and for walks in the park more often, so they don't lose themselves completely in the screens.

It’s true, Laurent, my grandchildren also sometimes show me images that look real but come straight from a computer. I tell myself that the most important thing is to teach them to check with people in the flesh, as we did before. And for the sake of History, let us pray above all that they maintain calm courage, without hatred. Thank you.

Yes, Maria, that's exactly how it is here in Craiova, customers come with children who believe any clip on TikTok. I say a bit of football after school and a job on Sunday still anchors them in reality. What do you think, does the park or the church help more at their age?
