Metropolis of Neapolis: The memory of the Asia Minor Disaster was honoredtranslated

At the Holy Church of Agios Georgios in Eleftherio, on Sunday September 13, 2026, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Neapolis and Stavroupolis Mr. Varnavas officiated. His Eminence's sermon was structured around two central axes: the Mystery of the Cross and the black anniversary of the uprooting of Hellenism from its eternal cradle, Asia Minor.
Referring to the Mystery of the Cross, His Holiness pointed out, among other things: "Today's Sunday is recorded in the liturgical time as the Sunday before the Exaltation of the Holy Cross." Our Church is defined as the Church of the Cross and Resurrection. Although people today often deny the cross, the Church insists: "Behold, joy has come to the whole world through the Cross". From our very Baptism, the Church seals us with the sign of the Cross. Death, the eternal enemy, is defeated and the Cross becomes "the beauty of the Church". Christ's call "whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" remains always relevant and timeless.
After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Pastor Mr. Varnavas held a memorial service in front of the Memorial...
