NAFPLIO: Celebrates the small church of Panagia located on the steep rocks of Karathona (VIDEO)translated

The feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is solemnly celebrated in the small church of Panagia Katakekrimmeni on Karathona beach in Nafplio. On the eve of the holiday, the solemn vespers was celebrated by the archpriest Fr. Eleftherios Michos, vicar of I.N. Evangelistria of Nafplio. It is perhaps the only hermitage in the area that is preserved in such good condition and is located in a beautiful location. Its long history is lost in the depths of history, although it is unknown when exactly an iconography (Saint John the Baptist) was made that is preserved in a fairly good condition and bears a date of 1500 or 1600 AD. this shows how old this hermitage is.

In other sources, it is mentioned to be a member of the holy monastery of the Transfiguration of Karathona, which is located a few kilometers higher.

Inside the church, a few years ago, an image of the Genesis of the Virgin was found in a crypt, a real relic for the church. Today the icon is kept in the Holy Church of Evangelistria in Nafplio where the chapel belongs. The church in question is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin and it is a cave inside a rock on the mountain of Karathona.…
