The application of the former Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos was rejected against the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchatetranslated

In rejecting the application of the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Mr. Tychikos, for the issuance of privileged writs of Certiorari regarding the decision dated 17.10.2025 of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Supreme Court proceeded, in a decision issued on July 9, 2026. On June 10, 2026, the Supreme Court had given the possibility to the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Mr. Tychikos, to proceed with an application for the issuance of a privileged warrant in relation to the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, but not for the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, making the appeal of the former Metropolitan of Paphos against a first instance decision that rejected the his request for an extension of the deadline for challenging the ecclesiastical decisions that declared him deposed from his office.

Teodora FloreaIt appears that the Cypriot judiciary has definitively rejected Tychikos' request only for the part from the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The decision of July 9, 2026 leaves both synods standing, and the Cypriot one of May 22, 2025 and the confirmation from Fanar. I wonder what's next for him now after so many trials.

Ondrej NovákSo the court in Nicosia has closed it for good, at least as far as the Phanar decision of October 17, 2025 is concerned. Both synods remain in effect - even the Cyprus one of May 2025. I wonder what he plans to do now that he has nowhere to go with an appeal.

Sergio FernándezThe decision of the Nicosia court of July 9 definitively closes the path against the Ecumenical Patriarchate. It strikes me that the appeal was only partially successful in June, leaving the Cypriot decision of May 22, 2025 intact. Now I wonder what canonical steps remain for Tychikos, because judicially it already seems that there are no more doors open.

Jan NovákThe court in Nicosia has therefore definitively closed it for Fanar as well. Both decisions - the Cypriot one from 22.5.2025 and the confirmation from 17.10.2025 - remain in force. I wonder what he will do now that he has nowhere else to go with the appeal.
