With particular splendor, ecclesiastical order and due solemnity, the High Priestly Solemn Vespers was celebrated in memory of the Holy Father Romanos the Melodos, patron and rector of the Association of Chanters of the Attica Region "Romanos the Melodos & John the Damascene". The service took place in the Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Athens, in the presence of a large number of believers and representatives of the political, self-governing and liturgical world. The Solemn Vespers was presided over by the Most Holy Bishop of Christoupolis, Mr. Varnavas, Proto-Secretary of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Dimitrias and Almyros, Mr. Ignatios, was present as a co-prayer.
Political and Self-Governing Presences The Greek Government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Haris Theocharis and the Deputy Minister of Interior Mr. Vassilis Spanakis. The President of PASOK was represented by Ms. Nadia Giannakopoulou, Member of Parliament B2' Western Sector of Athens. Independent MPs Mr. Nikos Vrettos, Mr. Haris Katsivardas and Ms. Athina Linou were also present.
