September 28: Saint Chariton the Confessor celebratestranslated

Today our Church honors the memory of Saint Charitonos the Confessor and Saint Auxentios. Saint Chariton shone with his virtues and martyrdom during the years of Emperor Aurelian. Because he believed in and confessed the All-Holy Triune God, he was imprisoned and severely tortured. Despite this, he remained firm and brave in his Christian attitude.

After the death of Emperor Aurelian, he was released from prison. Bearing the scars of martyrdom on his body, he decided to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. On the way he was arrested by robbers, who tortured him mercilessly. But then they themselves met death by drinking poisoned wine. Thus, Chariton turned the robbers' hideout into a monastery. Afterwards, several monks followed him, who excelled in holiness, humility and penance. And so they were qualified by the Holy Spirit to reach the heights of a virtuous life.

Such an exemplary example of man, earthly angel and heavenly man is our Saint, Saint Neophytos the Enclosed, whom we honor in memory of the miraculous finding and retrieval of his holy Relic.
