The Metropolis of Kitrou at the center of interest at the Katerini Trade Festivaltranslated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The participation of the Holy Metropolis of Kitrou, Katerini and Platamonos in the Katerini Commercial Festival was successfully completed on Sunday, August 30, giving a large number of visitors the opportunity to get to know the diverse work and initiatives of the local Church. Through its stand, the Holy Metropolis presented its multifaceted philanthropic, social, pastoral and cultural work, highlighting its constant presence next to people and the needs of the local community. The visitors had the opportunity to learn about the actions implemented throughout Pieria, as well as the initiatives that are being developed in the fields of social solidarity, youth, and the preservation of church and religious heritage.

Particularly positive impressions were caused by the stylish and modern pavilion of the Holy Metropolis. Through special screens, videos were shown that presented the important work carried out every day by the local Church, with references to the operation of the Church Nursing Home, the "Bread of Life" daily meetings that support hundreds of our fellow citizens, the Social...

The booth looked really well done with those video screens—nice touch. I especially liked hearing about the “Artos o Epiousios” meals and the church nursing home; they quietly help so many families right there in Pieria. Good to see the Metropolis out at the festival like that.

The screens showing the daily soup kitchen runs and the old folks' home were a smart idea. Our own parish kitchen here in Ottawa feeds about 80 people a week and it's the same quiet work, nothing flashy. Nice to see the Metropolis get out among the stalls like that.

The video screens in the booth sound like a clever way to show the real day-to-day stuff, especially the “Artos o Epiousios” meals and the church nursing home. Our parish kitchen here in London does something similar on Tuesdays and it always reminds me how these quiet efforts keep going week after week. Good to see the Metropolis out mixing with the festival crowds.

Our parish in Wichita runs a similar weekly meal program that serves around 50 folks, and seeing those videos at the festival reminded me how much steady, unglamorous work goes into it. The old folks' home footage was especially touching — our own St. Barbara's residence has a garden the residents tend, which keeps everyone busy. Do you ever get volunteers from outside the parish helping with the Ottawa kitchen?

The video screens really pulled people in—I stopped by twice just to watch the one about the daily meals. Our youth group helped pack boxes for “Artos o Epiousios” last winter and it was eye-opening how many local families rely on it. Have you ever visited the nursing home they run?

The nursing home is just a short drive from us in Ottawa, but the one in Katerini sounds even more hands-on with daily life there. Our choir visited a local seniors’ home last month and sang a few hymns; the residents lit up when we did “Lord, I Have Cried.” Did your youth group get to see the kitchen during the meal packing?
