The Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete, with deep pain and sorrow, shares in the pain, for the devastating fires and their tragic results, but mainly for the human victims, which we mourn in Rethymnon and in other areas of our country.

The Holy Synod prays especially for the repose of our five fellow human beings - victims, it expresses its deepest condolences to their families and its undivided support and love to those affected, in every way, by the consequences of the fiery conflagration.

In front of this great tragedy, we all stand together with pain of soul and mutual support, for the healing of the wounds from the fires and we ask God to give strength and courage to all people.

The Holy Synod thanks and congratulates the staff of the Fire Service, the volunteers and those who work for the effective treatment of catastrophic fires.

The Church of Crete will undertake, in the next period, appropriate initiatives, for the material and spiritual support and essential assistance of the affected, through the Holy Diocese of Lampi, Syvritos and Sfakia.

I feel sorry for those five people in Rethymnon. May the Lord give them peace, and strength to their relatives. Thank God, the Church will help concretely through the Metropolis of Lampa, Sivrita and Sfakion, that's good.
