"Green light" from Turkey for Divine Liturgies in Kyzikos and Panagia Sumela on August 23translated

The green light was given by the Turkish authorities for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during the rendering of the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin in historical pilgrimages of Asia Minor and the Pontus, as announced by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Specifically, the Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholomeus will preside over the Divine Liturgy at the ruins of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, in Artaki, Kyzikos. At the same time, for the third year in a row, a High Priestly Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Sumela, in Trebizond.

In detail, the announcement of the Ecumenical Patriarchate states: "It is with great pleasure that it is announced that, following the granting of the required permits by the competent authorities, on August 23, 2026, on the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the following will be held:

a) Divine Liturgy of the Superior of A.Th. His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in the ruins of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni in Artaki, Kyzikos, and

b) High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Soumela, in Trebizond."
