The Church of Saint Basilios the Archbishop and Mayor of Larissatranslated

The Church, which is a gift from the ever-memorable Queen Olga to the city of Larissa and which our ancestors rebuilt after the war, exists as a reminder of the great Saint Archbishop of Larissa who essentially helped in the survival of Christians in Thessaly, prevented Islamization, and even today the mountain network he created for Christians to escape the plain, where Ottoman cavalry dominated, is still in use. This network allowed them to transport their goods safely through mountain passes to the port of Parga, from which they fled westward.

Saint Basilios is a contributor to the wonder we call "the golden age of Thessaly," the 16th century, during which this significant spiritual and national personality operated and dominated.
