Kritis Evgenios: The two Firemen fell into their duty heroically to save our country (VIDEO)translated

The Archbishop of Crete Mr. Evgenios expressed his sadness for the loss of the two firefighters who lost their lives yesterday in the unequal battle with the flames in southern Rethymnon.  His Holiness, after the Funeral Service for the deceased 25-year-old seasonal firefighter, Pantelis Diamantakis, in which he presided, speaking to the local media spoke of people who sacrificed themselves in the effort to save lives and properties. "These hours, as I also said in the temple, are hours of silence, contemplation and prayer for our people who left in this untimely way," he said.

The Archbishop described the two firefighters as models of giving and self-sacrifice. "They gave their whole being in the effort to save lives, properties, our country. They fell to their duty, heroically. They are now an example to follow for all of us," he said.

At the same time, he sent a message about the need to protect the natural environment, pointing out: "We must love this place that God gave us, protect it, take care of it."

Referring to the causes of the fires, he noted that he hopes they are due to negligence and not to arson. "All that which…
