The miraculous fishing and the calling of the first disciples

(September 27, 2026) My dears, from today - the end of September - until Christmas, the Gospel passages that we will read at the Divine Liturgy are taken from the Gospel according to Luke. The first of this series refers to the miraculous fishing and the calling of the first disciples of Jesus to the apostolic work.

As the evangelist Luke told us, "as Jesus stood on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, he saw two fishing boats at the edge of the lake. The fishermen had gotten off it and were washing their nets. He climbed into one of the fishing boats, the one that belonged to Simon, and begged him to pull a little from the land. He sat in the fishing boat and taught the multitudes from it. When he finished his speech, he said to Simon: "Go into the deep and let down your nets for fishing." Simon answered him: "Teacher, we trained all night and caught nothing; however, because you say so, I will let down the net." They cast it and caught so many fish that their net began to tear.
