August 14 is one of the most painful anniversaries in the modern history of the Republic of Cyprus, which evokes memories of deep pain and destruction. In violation of the agreed ceasefire, Turkey launched the second phase of the invasion, "Attila II" on August 14, 1974.

The continued implementation of its plans on the ground resulted in the occupation of a significant part of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and the mass displacement of the population, creating a reality of occupation and division that continues to this day.

"With the deepest respect we honor the memory of the fallen and the heroic resistance of all those who rushed to the call to defend the freedom and territorial integrity of the homeland. 52 years later, it remains an irreplaceable debt of all of us to continue our efforts until the liberation and reunification of our homeland," the Ministry says in its message for today's painful anniversary Defense of the Republic of Cyprus.
