Saint Euthymius the Newtranslated

October 5, 2026 · 1 min read

Abbot Ephraim, Superior of the Great Monastery of Vatopedi

Through the long and historic life of the saintly Athanasius, many known holy forms have been revealed, but also more unknown to us. Today we celebrate a Holy Hieromartyr, who lived here in our monastery, Saint Euthymius the New. In essence, we celebrated an unknown Saint – for we do not know the details of his life – but who was found in his entire Holy Lav in our monastery’s cemetery, as we heard in the readings that preceded the service and here at the table.

Thank you for telling us about our Saint Evdokim. In our Moscow church, we also sometimes commemorate the Athonite ascetics, about whom almost nothing is known, except that their relics are intact and help people. It’s interesting that it was in your monastery cemetery that it was found intact. When do you usually serve him a prayer service?

Yes, I also heard it today at the bank, that the entire remains were found in the cemetery of the Monastery without knowing almost anything about his life. I was impressed by what Elder Ephraim said, that the struggle to hide one's virtue is even more difficult than the exercise itself. Too bad the text got cut off, I'd like to read more.
