Memorial and Unveiling of the bust of Ioannou Kapodistrias in Thessalonikitranslated

On St. Luke's Sunday (September 27), the Pastor, Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mr. Philotheos, officiated and preached the divine word in the Parish Church of Panagia of Chalkea. Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop held a Memorial Mass in favor of the blessed memory and eternal rest of Ioannou Kapodistrias, the first Governor of the newly established Greek State, who on September 27, 1831, Sunday, while attending the Divine Liturgy, was murdered outside the Holy Church of Agios Spyridon in Nafplion.

During the High Priestly Divine Liturgy, the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Velestinos, Mr. Damaskinos, was present as a co-prayer.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stylianos Angeloudis, the President, Mr. Eleftherios Kavvadias, and the members of the Corfu Association of Thessaloniki "Saint Spyridon", many of whom wore traditional Corfu costumes, and representatives of the Local Government attended the High Priestly Memorial.
