Ptolemaida celebrated its patron sainttranslated

With special splendor and the participation of many faithful, the commemoration of the Beheading of the Precious Head of St. John the Forerunner was celebrated on August 28–29, 2026, at the Holy Church of Ptolemaida, which commemorated the city’s patron saint. On the afternoon of Friday, August 28, the Panegyric Vespers and the Blessing of the Bread were celebrated, with the presence of clergy and a multitude of faithful.
The Divine Liturgy was preached by Archimandrite Theonas Athanasiadis, General Archieratical Commissioner of the Holy Metropolis of Florina, who conveyed the greetings and prayers of the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Florina, Bishop Eirenaeus, to the clergy and congregation. He spoke of the life of St. John the Forerunner, highlighting the saint as a model of faith, self-sacrifice, and witness to truth.
Prior to the conclusion of Vespers, a procession of the Holy Icon of St. John the Forerunner through the streets of the parish took place, with the participation of many faithful.
