Diocese of Bukomba: The Russian invasion of the Patriarchate of Alexandria is dissolvedtranslated

The continuation of its pastoral and missionary work in Tanzania, despite the tensions that have recently been recorded around the ecclesiastical presence of different Orthodox jurisdictions in Africa, is highlighted in a statement by the Diocese of Bukoba and Western Tanzania. The press release points out that the project developed in the area is based on a long-term effort of the Orthodox missionaries and the local church communities. As it is typically stated, "God will not let the work of the Greek Missionaries in Africa go to waste", while there is talk of the constant presence of the Church through the organization of parishes and the development of structures for social and educational provision.

The work they list—parishes with priests, churches, catechists, schools, clinics, and wells—shows real long-term effort on the ground in Tanzania. It's a shame we're watching jurisdictions carve up the same mission field instead of backing each other up. God willing the local believers won't be the ones who lose out.
