Ioannis Kapodistrias: Commemoration Day for the first Governor of Greece in Nafpliotranslated

The events of memory and honor for the first Governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, as well as the annual commemoration of the Benefactors of the Municipality of Nafplion, were solemnly concluded on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in historic Nafplio.

The program began with the High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Historical Holy Church of Agios Spyridon, pre-eminent of Metropolitan Nektarios of Argolis. This was followed by the memorial prayer and the holy memorial for the repose of the first Governor of Greece and the Benefactors of Nafplion.

The events culminated in Kapodistrias Square, where the official laying of wreaths on the statue of Ioannis Kapodistrias took place. The government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Ioannis Andrianos.

The day has special symbolism for Nafplion, as on September 27, 1831, with the old calendar, Ioannis Kapodistrias, as he used to every Sunday, headed to the Holy Church of Agios Spyridon to attend the Divine Liturgy.
