Seismic vibration near Karpathos – It was felt as far as Rhodestranslated

A strong earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at noon in a marine area near Karpathos, causing disturbance to the residents of Karpathos and Kasos, but no damage or injuries have been reported so far. The Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of the Municipality of Kasos, Yiannis Nikolaou, speaking to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, said that the earthquake was particularly noticeable on the island, however there were no problems and no reports of damage.

For his part, the mayor of Karpathos, Michalis Felouzis, told APE-MPE that so far there is no report of damage on the island. As he made known, levels of the Fire Service and the municipality have already carried out checks in various parts of Karpathos, in order to determine if any problem has been caused by the seismic vibration.

The competent services remain on alert, while monitoring of seismic activity in the area continues. So far, the picture from the two islands is reassuring, as no damage to infrastructure or residences has been identified and no injuries have been reported.
