The celebration of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in our Metropolistranslated

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the great Theotokos feast of the Nativity of the Virgin is celebrated and in our Metropolis it is especially honored in the feronymous Holy Churches of Anthia, Lefkimmi, the old Nipsa and Lakkoma in Samothrace.

On the evening of the eve of the holiday, on Monday, September 7, the solemn Vespers was celebrated with baking in the above Holy Churches with the participation of residents and visitors of the settlements. And on the day of the feast, on Tuesday morning, the response of the people in all the Churches of our Metropolis was also great, honoring the great religious event of the Nativity of our Virgin Mary.

Thanks for the news. This year I also went to Samothraki and stopped by the church in Lakkoma - it was full of people even at vespers, exactly as it says here. It's like I can still see the candles lit at Nipsa, nice article.

Thanks for the article. It’s good that so many people gathered in Lakkom and old Nipsa, especially at the all-night vigil. Our churches in Nizhny are also always full at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, it’s nice to see that it’s the same in Samothrace.

Last year I went fishing with my daughter on the coast of Samothraki and passed by the church in Lakkoma just on eve; it was crowded, but quiet, with the smell of wax and basil. I didn't get to Nipsa, but the pictures in the article reminded me of those small candles that flicker all night. Did you catch the morning job there too?
