There are holidays that don't let us just stay in the memory of an event. They call us to look deeper into our lives and to stand before God with what weighs us down, scares us and often exceeds us. One such feast is the Exaltation of the Holy and Living Cross. The Church raises at the center of its worship the point of Christ's sacrifice and invites us not only to worship it, but also to recognize in it the hope of our own life.

There are moments when everything changes abruptly. A phone call, a piece of news, an illness, a failure, a loss can in a few minutes overturn what we took for granted. And then the question arises almost spontaneously: "Why?". Why would this happen? Why now? Why to me? On September 14, the Church does not offer us an easy answer. It doesn't glamorize pain or ask us to pretend it doesn't hurt. But he raises before us the Holy and Life-giving Cross and reminds us that even in the midst of trial man is not left without the presence of God and without hope.
