Can One Do Manicures on Church Holidays?translated

September 21, 2026 · 1 min read

Reader's Question:

Greetings, Anastasia!

Could you please advise if it is permissible for me, as a nail service specialist who works from home, to provide services during Orthodox holidays?

Anastasia

Response by the Priest:

Protodeacon Andrei Efanov

May God bless you, dear Anastasia!

In general, there is an overarching principle regarding any work on church holidays. If possible, and unless it involves urgent matters (such as a pipe burst or an emergency operation), it's advisable to postpone your work in order to participate in the divine service.

If you cannot go early in the morning, at least try to come in the evening before the holiday to pray and listen to the festive hymns.

After the Divine Liturgy, you can fully engage in your work—whether that be in an office, a workplace, or at home.

And by the way, we have this useful resource: How to Properly Celebrate the Nativity of the Theotokos?

With God!

May He guide you!
