Metropolitan Nicolae on the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: It gives us an opportunity to reflect on the world and our Christian lifetranslated

Metropolitan Nicolae of the two Americas emphasized on Sunday that the Exaltation of the Holy Cross offers us an "opportunity to reflect on our own understanding of the world and our Christian life".

Starting from the historical significance of the holiday, related to the discovery of the Holy Cross by Empress Elena and its elevation in the sight of the people by Patriarch Macarius of Jerusalem, His Eminence explained the importance for the Church.

"The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was established to remember and honor an event in the history of salvation linked precisely to the honorable Cross of the Savior Christ".

At the same time, the Metropolitan of the two Americas showed that the Savior's command to take up each cross presupposes self-denial and orientation of the whole existence towards God: "Christ himself urges us to take up the Cross".

"To lay down our soul for Christ and the Gospel means to follow Christ and not consider our life abduction as one that has value in itself in the absence of God", said His Eminence.
