On September 3, Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Trans-Volga Monastery in honor of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord. His Eminence was served by the clergy of the Samara Metropolis. The brethren of the monastery and pilgrims prayed during the service. At the end of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Theodosius addressed those gathered with an archpastoral speech dedicated to the Gospel story of the healing of the Gadarene demoniac. Glory to God! I remembered how the bishop said that we ourselves give power to our passions when we defend them and do not want to repent. It is as if I see that man bound with iron chains, and yet worse than the chains are the sins we hold close. Thank you for this simple and direct word.

Yes, Petru, that phrase with the chains stuck in my head too. Me, when I read in the garden in the evening from the Gospel, I keep thinking how sometimes I keep a little sin "as a friend" and then wonder that I can't get rid of it. Thank you for writing, it gave me the courage to look more closely at what I stand for on a daily basis.
