Metropolitan Alexy celebrated an all-night vigil on the eve of the celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lordtranslated

On the eve of the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass celebrated an all-night vigil in the lower church of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. Concelebrating with the ruling bishop were: the representative of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Archimandrite Seraphim (Shemyatovsky), the representative of the Orthodox Church in America under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Archpriest Daniil Andreyuk, and the secretary of the Chelyabinsk Diocese, Archpriest Igor Shestakov. During the service, an excerpt from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 9:28-36) was read, which tells how Jesus Christ, taking disciples Peter, John and James, ascended Mount Tabor. During prayer, He was transformed: His clothes became shining. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus about His exodus in Jerusalem. The disciples saw the glory of the Lord and the men who appeared. Peter, struck by the vision, offered to make a booth (tent) for the Lord and the two men who appeared. However, a cloud appeared from which a voice came: “This is My Beloved Son; listen to Him.”

After this, the disciples saw only Jesus. For the time being, they kept silent about everything that was revealed to them. Metropolitan Alexy anointed the parishioners with the consecrated...

The reading from Luke always sticks with me — that moment when Peter blurts out about building the three booths and then the cloud and the voice come. Nice to see the representatives from the Czech and American churches there with our bishop. The lower church must have been packed.
