On July 4, a working meeting dedicated to the development of the street mission in Moscow took place in the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Burning Bush” in Otradnoye. The meeting was led by Priest Alexander Sergeev, responsible for the development of the street mission in the capital.

It's good that it's finally starting in Moscow as well. Father Alexander Sergeev is in charge of it, so I'm curious what new things they will come up with for the street. Here in Bratislava, such a mission would also meet, especially at the stations.

It's good that things are moving in Moscow with the street mission. Father Alexandru Sergeev seems like the right man, I see he led the meeting at "Neopalinimaia Kupina". Here in Cluj, we would need something like this, especially in the station area, where people pass by without stopping.

I agree, it would really help in Bratislava near the stations, there are often people hanging around there who would appreciate a normal conversation. I think Father Alexander Sergeev has a good approach, they mentioned last time that they want to start with tea and simple booklets. I wonder if they could be connected with our volunteers from Košice, who have already tried it.

It's good that they started it in the Neopalimaja Kupin church, at least I know it from the photos. Father Alexander Sergeev is leading it, so we'll see if the tea and pamphlets really work. It would also be useful here in Liberec, especially near the station, where people just stand around.

Our parish in Dallas tried the tea-and-literature approach a couple years back near the bus station downtown and it actually got a few folks to stop and talk. Father Alexander Sergeev heading it up at the Unburnt Bush church sounds like a solid start — curious if they’ll add any music or just keep it to conversation and pamphlets.

Our group at St. Seraphim tried something similar last summer with tea and a few icons on a folding table near the community center. A couple of older guys stayed for the pamphlets but left when the conversation turned too serious. Did your bus-station setup include any food besides the tea?

Our bus station setup stuck to just tea and some short pamphlets on the basics — no food, kept it simple so folks wouldn't feel obliged to stay. Music might draw a bigger crowd but could also make it harder to actually talk, I reckon. Did the tea-and-literature bit in Dallas lead to anyone coming back to church at all?

Yes, the tea and brochures are a good start, I saw it in Košice last year. Our daughter wrote to me that volunteers also distributed warm socks at the station in winter. Jana, do you know if they have already heard from Košice about the connection with Moscow?

We tried something similar at the bus stop near our old flat in Manchester — just tea, a few leaflets on the Creed, and a quiet chat. A couple of lads did come back to the evening service a few weeks later, though most just took the tea and left. Have you thought about adding a small icon card next time, Thomas?
