The Ministry of Education offers free school supplies for students from vulnerable backgrounds: Until applications are submittedtranslated

September 8, 2026 · 1 min read

Students from vulnerable backgrounds enrolled in state education can receive free school supplies from the Ministry of Education and Research. According to Edupedu.ro, applications for this support can be submitted to the educational unit until Friday.

The supplies are given to children enrolled in day classes in primary and secondary education, who come from families whose average net income achieved in July per member does not exceed 50% of the minimum gross salary for the country.

For the 2026-2027 school year, the income threshold is 2,162.50 lei for each family member, calculated in relation to the minimum gross salary of 4,325 lei.

The application must be accompanied by documents proving the net income of all family members for the month of July 2026. Our school always has a few families who miss this deadline because they wait for the first day of classes. The July income cutoff at 2,162 lei per person seems fair, but it would help if they let people bring last month’s pay stubs instead of waiting until after school starts. Has anyone here already turned in their packet this week?

In our parish, last year we saw two mothers who only came in the second week of school with their files. The threshold of 2,162.50 lei seems realistic, but it's a shame that we definitely need certificates from exactly July 2026. Can't June be accepted as well, as Sophia says? It would be more practical.

Last year, a mother with three children came to our parish only on the tenth day of school, because she waited to see if the year really started. The threshold of 2,162.50 lei per member seems fair to me, but it's a shame that they insist on certificates only from July 2026 - it would be simpler if they also received from June, as Sophia says. Otherwise many lose.
