Memory of Great Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus

The Church commemorates today the Great Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus, and Hieromartyr Eusebius the Priest and Martyr Felix.

The Great Martyrs Sergius and Bacchus came from Rome and lived during the reign of Emperor Maximian (284-305). They were high-ranking officers of the Roman army. When they were accused of converting to Christianity, they publicly confessed their faith in Christ.

They were stripped of the insignia of military rank, publicly humiliated, and tortured to death. Nevertheless, they remained steadfast in their faith and devoted to the Crucified Jesus Christ and, thus, they received the wreath of martyrdom.
