How to forgive your ex-loved one who hit you?translated

September 6, 2026 · 1 min read

Reader question:

I cannot forgive or understand my ex-beloved for raising his hand against me. How to forgive? I'm 21, he's the same age. We were together for almost 4 years, he took me to the church. She loved immensely, humiliated herself and lived in illusions. I don’t believe in his repentance and that he loved him. I remember all his hatred and anger at that moment. I remember the panic that came over me when he put a pillow on my face and then hit me. I can’t forget, I can’t forgive. We will not be together and I am grateful to the Lord that He showed me his face and opened his eyes. Every day I remember, I live with hatred. It's important for me to forgive him. But how can I forgive a person who did not apologize to me until my father threatened to make a statement? For this reason, I do not believe in the sincerity of the apology. But every day I am glad that my rose-colored glasses have fallen off. Help, please, I want to cope with hatred and resentment.

Anastasia

Priest's answer:

Archpriest Andrey EFANOV

God bless you, dear Anastasia!

With all my heart I empathize with you and sympathize that you had to endure such a double blow - both physical violence and betrayal by the person you trusted in such wonderful years of your youth! It’s very difficult when everything collapses at the same time...

Ana, I'm sorry you went through this. The blow and the pillow on the face are things you don't easily forget, especially when the man didn't ask for forgiveness from his heart, but only out of fear of your father. I would say to pray for him as for a sick person, not as for a loved one, and to ask a priest for advice too - maybe it helps to put everything on the table, not just to keep turning the memory over and over in your head. may god strengthen you.

Ana, I'm sorry you went through this. The punch and the pillow on the face are hard things to forget, especially when the man only moved when he heard the police. I say pray for him as for a sick person, as Corina said, and ask God to remove this hatred from your heart, because otherwise it gnaws at you every day.
