“Choose him into Your dwelling place”: Metropolitan Longin consecrated the church in the village of Maloye Nagatkinotranslated

September 6, 2026 · 1 min read

On September 6, Metropolitan Longin of Simbirsk and Novospassky performed the rite of great consecration of the church in honor of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Maloye Nagatkino, Tsilninsky district.

The Bishop addressed the parishioners gathered in the church and told them in detail about the rite during which the church becomes the house of God.

During the rite of great consecration, a throne is established in the altar of the church, where the main sacrament of the Orthodox Church will be performed - the sacrament of the Eucharist. The throne and the walls of the church are sprinkled with holy water and anointed with myrrh. The relics of the holy martyrs are laid at the foundation of the throne. The bishop performing the consecration turns to the Lord, “who has Heaven as his throne, and earth as his foot,” and prays that God would send His Holy Spirit and choose this church as His dwelling, so that this church would be “a refuge for the distressed, a cure for passions, a refuge for the weak, for driving away demons”; so that the Lord always hears everyone who prays in this church with reverence, and so that he preserves it until the end of time.

Then the Vladyka celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the consecrated Assumption Church. His Eminence was co-served by the dean of the Tsilninsky district, Priest Vladimir Manyakov, Priest Andrei Korunov,…

Thank God this work is finished in Maloe Nagatkino. I liked how Vladica Longhin explained everything that is done at the consecration, especially the part with the relics in the foundation and with that long prayer that the church be a home for the weak and exorcism. I will try to get to a mass there myself, to see the new presto.

It's nice that Lord Longinus explained the act in such detail, especially the prayer where he asks for the church to become "a harbor for the stormy and a banishing of demons". Here in Svidník, we had a similar consecration a few years ago, and I still remember how calm I felt in the church after that. Ion, give it a try, it's definitely worth it.

Thanks for writing, Ion. And that prayer with "expelling spirits" and "healing passions" stuck in my head, it sounds so practical. Have you ever been to a church dedication before or was this your first time hearing the details? I will also try to get to the Liturgy there one Sunday, to see the throne.

Yes, this prayer where we ask that the church be “doctor of passions and cast out demons” also struck me. It’s concrete, we feel that the church is really becoming a place where we can come with our weaknesses. Thanks Ion for pointing that out, I'll try to go see the new building in Maloe Nagatkino one of these Sundays.
