Quite a lot is already known about the life of the second Vyatka ruler - Archbishop Jonah (Tugarinov): articles by various authors have been published, a small book by Archpriest Alexander Balyberdin has been published. However, the Lord, by His mercy, sends us more and more documents about this wonderful archpastor. It’s as if we are reading an amazing book about him, with more pages constantly being added. The purpose of this article is to provide hitherto unknown information regarding the biography of Bishop Jonah. Thanks to the help of employees of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RGADA), it was possible to establish that, in a direct ascending line, Saint Jonah came from a family of hereditary clergy. It should be noted that back in 2007 N.E. Zavoiskaya introduced into scientific circulation a record from the Synodic of the Vyatka Dormition Trifonov Monastery, which is directly related to the genealogy of Bishop Jonah. This entry is entitled “The Family of the Most Reverend Jonah, Bishop of Vyatka and Velikoperm.”

The first names listed in it are the holy monk Alexander the schema-monk, the holy hegumen Afphonius, the priest Vladimir and the priest Onesimus. Hieromonk Alexander is the father of Bishop Jonah, mentioned in various documents...
