“The history of Russia is a history of miracles”translated

On September 8, 2026, on the feast of the Presentation of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. At the end of the Liturgy, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the believers with the Primate’s word.

I cordially congratulate all of you, Your Eminence Bishops, dear fathers, brothers and sisters, on today’s holiday - on the event associated with the salvation of the city of Moscow and all of Russia!

The great miracles that mark our history are associated with the deliverance of our country and our people from foreign invasions that could destroy the country, destroy the people, and erase our Fatherland from history - so strong were the enemies who entered our land in order to take possession of its riches, conquer it and themselves become the strongest in the world.

Yes, I remember how at school they talked about the Vladimir Icon and how it saved Moscow from Tamerlane in 1395. The Patriarch said correctly - without such miracles we would have been erased from the map long ago. And in Krasnodar we also have our own list of this icon in the church; we bring it out every year for the holiday.

Yes, I also remember that lesson in school about 1395 and how Tamirlan left after seeing the icon. Father Patriarch said well, our history is really full of such moments when only God's mercy kept us on the map. Here in Sibiu, in the cathedral, we have a smaller copy and we take it out in procession every year on September 8, after the Liturgy.
