In Hungary, WCC general secretary reflects on opportunities, challenges of Christian mission

During an International Ecumenical Conference at Pannonhalma, Hungary, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay attended Holy Mass in St Martin ’ s Basilica, visited with students in the Assembly Hall of the Benedictine Secondary School, participated in a roundtable discussion with Hungarian bishops, and offered a lecture as well as a homily.

The lecture, entitled “ Opportunities and Challenges of Contemporary Christian Mission: Can Mission Be Learnt or Taught?” offered a critical reflection from the perspective of the WCC and the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism.

“ Christian mission is undergoing a profound transformation in the contemporary world,” said Pillay. “ This paper examines the opportunities and challenges presented by contemporary Christian mission and asks whether mission can actually be learnt or taught.”
