Since 2002, Shikiya has been serving as the World Council of Churches (WCC) as special envoy for the peace process in Colombia.

Colombia has endured a conflict lasting more than 60 years. The Colombian State has recorded more than 8.5 million people as victims of forced displacement.

This marked the first time in Colombia’s history that a government officially invited the WCC to serve as a permanent companion in the peace process.

It is good that a man with such a long experience in Colombia and with connections between the Evangelical and Protestant churches was chosen for this role. 20 years of work there is no small matter. I hope it will at least help those 8.5 million displaced people a little.

Yes, 20 years of connections with the evangelical and protestant churches there is serious business, it is not acquired overnight. I hope that his experience from Argentina will bring some practical help to those displaced families, and not just nice words. What do you think, do the evangelical churches in Colombia have enough influence to push the work in the field?

Yes, 20 years of work with evangelical and protestant churches in Colombia does not come by itself. It's good that they chose him for exactly that, not for nice words. I hope it will concretely help those 8.5 million displaced people, especially families.

It is interesting that they chose someone with 20 years of real relationships with the evangelical and protestant churches there. I hope it brings something tangible for those 8.5 million families uprooted, not just meetings.
