Greek FM: Greece and Japan strengthen strategic cooperation

The further strengthening of Greek-Japanese relations, prospects for expanding economic cooperation, and the two countries’ shared positions on international law and security were at the centre of a meeting between Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo.

Following the talks, Gerapetritis described the climate as particularly positive, referring to Japan as one of the world’s most important economic and diplomatic powers. He said the two sides discussed ways to further develop bilateral relations, with a focus on attracting investment and boosting cooperation in shipping, energy, culture, high technology and academic exchanges.

A significant part of the meeting was also devoted to regional and international developments. Gerapetritis said Greece and Japan share a commitment to an international order based on the rules of international law, expressing opposition to revisionism and any attempts to alter the existing international framework.
