Bishop Porfiry consecrated a spring in the village of Olzhevotranslated

On July 5, after the Sunday Divine Liturgy at the Bishop's Compound in honor of St. Paisius the Svyatogorets in the village of Olzhevo, His Eminence, Bishop of Lida and Smorgon Porfiry consecrated a source in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker on the outskirts of the village of Olzhevo.

“Krinichka “Olzhevka”,” as local residents call it, was prepared for consecration through the efforts and labors of the residents of the village of Olzhevo and the parishioners of the monastery.

Bishop Porfiry performed a short prayer service to St. Nicholas and a prayer, then blessed the waters of the spring with holy water, after which the archpastor addressed those present with words of edification and thanked the organizers of the spring for their efforts.

I agree, Marek, to see that they did it from the heart, not for a moment. We in Prešov have a similar spring near the church, where people carry water even on Easter Monday. It would be nice if you once wrote how it looks there after a year.

Nice to hear from Australia, David. The locals here really put their backs into cleaning and fixing up that spring — you can taste how fresh the water is even in July. In our winters it stays open but ices over at the edges; does your parish have any special wells or springs back home?

The locals really did a solid job on that spring—my roommate and I drove out there last fall and the water tasted like it came straight from the hills. Our parish doesn't have a natural spring, but we do have a little St. Nicholas icon corner by the side door that folks stop at with bottles sometimes. Does the ice make it tricky to draw water in winter, or do you just chip around the edges?
