Bishop Benedict consecrated the church in a documented locality more than seven centuries agotranslated

On Sunday, Bishop Benedict of Sălaj consecrated the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Mineu, documented for the first time in the 13th century.

The church life of the community is linked to the old wooden church built in the 17th century, which was later demolished, part of the wooden material being used to build the current stone place of worship, completed in 1938.

The consecration service took place at the end of the rehabilitation and modernization works carried out at the place of worship in the last four years.

Responsibility towards creation His Holiness Father Benedict spoke about man's responsibility in the world entrusted by God and about the value of work done with seriousness, dedication and patience.

"This world belongs to God. No matter how much we want to set our boundaries, to expand our properties, we die and everything remains God's. No one, not even the richest man in this world, is an owner, but only an administrator."

The Bishop of Sălaj urged the faithful to relate to work from the perspective of the Gospel.

Bună veste din Mineu. Mă bucur că au folosit și lemnul de la vechea biserică din secolul al 17-lea la cea nouă de piatră, așa se leagă istoria locului. Cuvintele Preasfințitului Benedict despre administrator și nu proprietar mi-au rămas în minte, mai ales când văd atâta grabă de a acumula azi.

Da, și mie mi-a plăcut cum au păstrat lemnul din biserica veche de secol XVII. E un fel de punte între generații, nu doar piatră și mortar. Cuvintele episcopului Benedict despre a fi administrator, nu proprietar, m-au făcut să mă gândesc la grădina mea din Berlin – o îngrijești cu răbdare, dar știi că nu e a ta pe veci.

Good news from Mine. I liked that they used the old beams from the 17th century wooden church to the 1938 stone one, it gives a sense of continuity to the place. Bishop Benedict's words about the steward and not the owner reminded me how, when I make bread in the kitchen, I know that the dough is not mine, I just knead it patiently.
