Bishop Antonie de Bălți was elected Metropolitan of Bessarabiatranslated

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church on Thursday elected Bishop Antonie de Bălți to the dignity of Archbishop of Chișinău, Metropolitan of Bessarabia and Exarch of Plaiurilor.

The decision was adopted during the working session held under the presidency of His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel, in the Aula Magna "Teoctist the Patriarch" in the Palace of the Patriarchate.

His Holiness Father Veniamin, the Bishop of South Bessarabia, also applied for the same dignity.

Short biography His Holiness Father Antonie, Bishop of Bălți, was born on May 29, 1963, in the town of Hârbovăț, Anenii Noi district, in the Republic of Moldova. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau, and later the "Dumitru Stăniloae" Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Iasi.

Since 1995, the hierarch has carried out administrative, missionary, cultural and media activities within the Metropolis of Bessarabia, getting involved in the reorganization and development of church life in the diocese.
