I remember when St. Spiridon's in Bucharest was still called "Nou" - back when I visited with my mother in the 80s. Now they've built "Casa Sărbătoarea" for the parish; I wonder where they'll put the choir in the new building.

I visited St. Spiridon-Nou myself a couple of years ago and the new Casa Sărbătoarea looks like it’ll finally give the parish some breathing room. Did your mother have any favorite memories from the old days there in the ’80s?

Yeah, that new center should help a lot with the crowding I saw on my last trip to Bucharest. My mother mostly remembered the tiny kitchen they used for coffee after Liturgy back in the '80s — she said it always smelled like burnt sugar and incense. Did you get to attend a service while you were there?

Yeah, that new Casa Sărbătoarea should ease things – the old setup was pretty tight even when I visited a couple years back. I didn’t catch a service at Sfântul Spiridon that trip, but the incense-and-coffee smell your mum described brought back memories of my own parish hall in the ’90s. Did your mother ever mention the little courtyard out back?
