The Archbishopric of Alba Iulia condemned the act of vandalism of the "Mareh Yezekiel" Synagogue in the municipality, calling it "a serious deviation from the moral and spiritual values that we are called to cultivate in society".
The representatives of the diocese sent a statement on the official Facebook page on Friday, stating that the vandalism of the place of worship "affects the Jewish community and the fundamental values of mutual respect, religious freedom and good coexistence between people".
"Any form of desecration or manifestation of hatred and intolerance represents a serious deviation from the moral and spiritual values that we are called to cultivate in society," the representatives of the diocese emphasized.
The press release highlighted the importance of the Jewish community, which "is part of the history and spiritual and cultural heritage of the municipality of Alba Iulia and of Transylvania, and its places of worship must be respected and protected as expressions of its identity and memory".
